Last Saturday, something unexpected happened in the world of cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin, the most well-known digital money, suddenly lost much of its value, going below $62,000. But it didn’t stay down for long and came back up to about $64,000. It wasn’t just Bitcoin; other cryptocurrencies also saw their values decrease.

- Bitcoin’s value went down below $62,000, but it went up a little again.
- Other cryptocurrencies, like Ethereum, BNB, and Solana, also lost some value.
- Because of these changes, the DeFi area, which is a special part of the cryptocurrency world, had a tough time.

Bitcoin Sees Big Dip But Then Bounces Back a Bit
Ethereum, another important digital currency, fell by 7%, falling just under $3,000. BNB and Solana, two other types of cryptocurrencies, also saw their values go down by 9% and 12%. CoinGecko, a website that tracks these things, noticed this and said more people were trading during this time.
The DeFi sector, which lets people do finance without a central system, felt this change. Some projects in this area, like Ethena, trying to make a digital dollar called USDe, were watched closely because the lower prices made things difficult for them.
It’s not clear why the market changed so much on Saturday. But, Arthur Hayes, who used to lead a big cryptocurrency exchange, thought it might be because people in the U.S. were getting ready to pay taxes, which could make less money available, affecting prices. Also, some tensions between Iran and Israel might have made investors nervous.
After a while, things seemed to calm down a bit when a message from Iran’s group at the United Nations made it seem like the immediate problem was over, but they also said they’d respond strongly if there were any more issues.
