Web3 Marketing: A Paradigm Shift in Digital Engagement
Jeff Wilser wrote a cool story for something called CoinDesk’s Web3 Marketing Week. He talks about how Web3 marketing is not just a small change but a big one that can change how we do many things online. This means we watch videos, talk about our favorite movies, and connect with the places we love to visit or the things we love to buy.
At the heart of Web3 marketing is the idea of eliminating middlemen like Google and Facebook, letting brands build direct, meaningful friendships with their audience. Dan Novaes, the smart guy who started Mode Mobile, doesn’t like how old Web2 marketing works because it often leaves businesses having to play by the rules of these big tech companies.
The shift toward Web3 marketing also favors creators and micro-influencers over the omnipresent big tech firms. Filip Wielanier, co-founder and CEO of Cookie3, envisions a decentralized ad distribution network where creators engage directly with and endorse brands, bypassing traditional advertising avenues.
One of Web3 marketing’s most appealing prospects is its potential to address the problematic reliance on cookies for ad targeting. Chris Outram, who works with technology at Publicis Media, thinks Web3 could make a stronger, more private way of using the internet. It might use special tech tricks called “zero-knowledge proofs.” This means people can tell companies what they like without having to share a lot of personal details.
Beyond mere monetary rewards, Web3 marketing envisages a world where users become stakeholders and ambassadors for the brands they support. This paradigm shift, as illustrated by Novaes’ EARNM token project, aims to convert passive earners into active owners, fostering a sense of community and loyalty previously unseen.
Even though these new ideas sound great, there are still some issues we need to figure out. One big problem is making sure that the ways people can earn rewards continue to work well and don’t run out of steam. Another thing we need to be really clear about is the rules and making sure everything is done the right way according to the law. However, the potential for a marketing landscape that equally benefits brands and consumers makes Web3 marketing an exhilarating prospect.
